The addon in the game: alts, gear, dungeons, zones

What the addon shows inside the game itself: an Alts tab, a Gear tab, dungeon quests and loot, zones, and item tooltips that know your characters. Each one can be switched off.

Most of PatchVault lives on the website, but since version 1.19 (a beta on CurseForge for now) the addon also shows a few things in the game itself. None of it is sent anywhere: it is read from what the addon already keeps on your computer.

Each extra has its own switch on the Extras tab of the PatchVault window (type /pv), or type /pv extras to see them all and /pv extras <name> to switch one. If you already use an addon that does the same job, the extra starts off and the chat tells you once how to turn it on:

  • Alts tab (alts), Retail and Forever.
  • Tooltips: alts that have it (have), Retail and Forever. Starts off with BagSync, Altoholic, DataStore, Syndicator or BagBrother (Bagnon).
  • Tooltips: alts that can craft it (craft), Forever.
  • Tooltips: upgrade for you (upgrade), Forever. Starts off with Pawn.
  • Gear tab (gear), Forever.
  • Zones tab (zones), Forever.
  • Dungeon quest check (quests), Forever. Starts off with Questie.
  • Dungeon loot (loot), Forever. Starts off with AtlasLoot.

The Alts tab

Every character you have logged in with PatchVault, with level, rested XP, gold, raid lockouts, zone and when you last played it. Rested XP marked with ~ is worked out from the time since you last played that character, the way the game does it, until you log in on it again. Hover a row for its played time, lockouts and when its bank was last read. Shift right-click a row to forget a character you deleted. /pv alts opens the tab straight away.

A character shows up once you have logged in on it with addon 1.19 or newer. Its bank shows up once you have visited a banker on it.

Item tooltips

  • Alts that have it: which of your characters carry the item, in their bags, their bank or worn, with a total.
  • Alts that can craft it: which of your characters know the recipe. A profession counts once its window has been opened on that character.
  • Upgrade for you: whether the item would be an upgrade for the character you are playing, and by how much. It uses the same rough rules as Gear finder and the upgrade marks on Dungeons and raids: rough weights per class, not a simulation.

The Gear tab

Upgrades for the character you are playing, best first, with where each one is: in your own bags or bank, on one of your alts, something one of your characters can craft, or a drop in a dungeon around your level (with its boss and drop chance). Items the game says are soulbound on an alt are left out, and an alt on another realm or faction is marked, since mail cannot reach it. The rules are the same as Gear finder. Hover a row to see every place the item is. /pv gear opens the tab.

The Dungeons tab

One dungeon at a time with its quests for your faction (done, in your log, ready to hand in, still to pick up and from whom, or not yet open at your level) and its loot by boss, with required level, drop chance and your upgrades marked. Hover an item for its tooltip and shift-click it to link it in chat. It opens on the dungeon you are in, or on the one around your level with the most left to do; the arrows step through the rest. /pv dungeons opens it.

When you enter a dungeon, the chat says in one line how many of its quests are still to pick up, in your log and done. The lists are the same ones as on Dungeons and raids, so a dungeon whose quests or loot are still Classic's there is Classic's here too.

The Zones tab

Every zone with its level range and faction, the same list as Zones. The zones that suit your level and faction are marked, and so is the one you are in. Tick Only zones for my level and faction for a short list. /pv zones opens it.

What's new after an update

From version 1.20, the first time you start the game after PatchVault updated, a window shows what changed since the version you had, the same notes as on CurseForge. It waits until you are out of combat. Untick Show this after every update in that window to stop it, and type /pv whatsnew to open it any time.
